As reference and instruction librarian, Stewart puts hours in behind the reference desk and presents how-to library research sessions to students. As the library webmaster he designs and updates the library web site. His technology skills also have him managing some library servers and troubleshooting issues within the library computer labs.

Stewart enjoys the vast literature collection the library has on its shelves. As an undergrad, Stewart studied briefly in Nagoya, Japan where he became fairly fluent in Japanese. He holds a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina, and also a Master's degree in English from CSU Long Beach, where he wrote his thesis on Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and Julia Kristeva's theory of intertextuality. In his free time, he writes haiku and science fiction stories, some of which have been published.

Stewart recommends students read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and The Riverside Chaucer edited by Larry Benson.
