Information Competency Project To Develop a Comprehensive Model List of Information Competence Skills for High School and Community College Students

The Information Competency Project was designed to develop a model list of information competencies for high school and community college students as well as lower division students at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The list was developed by working with feeder community colleges and high schools in the region.

Following a workshop held in October 1997 which included the participation of the following institutions: CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Northridge, CSU San Marcos, El Camino College, Long Beach City College, Cerritos College, Compton Community College, Carson Senior High, Banning Senior High, South Gate Senior High, Gardena Senior High, San Pedro Senior High, and Washington Senior High. A preliminary summary list of information competencies was established for recommendation to the California State University System.

On April 2, 1998 another workshop was held to prepare lesson plans to develop the Information Competencies identified in the workshop held in October 1997. Those participating in this particular workshop were librarians from the following colleges and schools: CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Northridge, Compton Community College, Long Beach Community College, Gardena Senior High, San Pedro High, South Gate Senior High, and Washington Senior High.
