ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENT for INFORMATION COMPETENCY
On February 18, 1999 a group of high school library media teachers, community college librarians and a CSU librarian met to develop an assessment instrument that would reflect the five information competencies that were identified at an earlier meeting. The librarians participating were from CSU Dominguez Hills, Compton Community College, El Camino Community College, San Pedro High School, and South Gate High School.
Using tests developed at CSU San Marcos, CSU Northridge, and CSU Pomona, the group selected a variety of questions from each to reflect all five information competencies. Some of the questions were edited.
The test is curently being pretested at CSU Dominguez Hills as well as at the high schools and the community colleges which participated in the workshop. After this testing, there will be adjustments made to further clarify the questions.
