HOW TO ACCESS LIBRARY DATABASES FROM HOME
WHY CAN’T I CONNECT ???

You may not be able to connect to a CSUDH Library database or journal index
from an off-campus location because:

  1. You are not on the CSUDH campus, and the database is one that is available only to users on campus.
Solution: Come to the Library to use this database.

  2. Off campus access to the database is limited to CSUDH students, staff and faculty who have registered in the Library patron database.
Solutions:  If you are a CSUDH student, faculty or staff member, take your photo ID and
proof of current registration to the Library Circulation desk and register.
If you are a distance learning student, fill out and submit the online Library
      Patron Registration form at
https://library.csudh.edu/rpareg.php

  3. The maximum number of users from CSUDH who can search that particular database at one time has been reached.
Solution: Wait a few minutes and try again.

  4. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may not support your use of the database you wish to use.
Using a browser supplied by your ISP may make it difficult or impossible to configure the browser to work with the CSUDH Library software that identifies you as a valid user
(many of our users have had problems connecting through AOL and CompuServe).
Solution: Use a recent version of a browser downloaded from the website of the
browser’s  producer (not your ISP).  Connect to the Internet using your ISP’s
software, then minimize  the session and launch Netscape (version 4.7 or later)
or Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or  later).
Netscape is available from the Netsacpe software page:

http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp
Internet Explorer is available from the IE software page:
               http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/

  5. Your browser may be refusing the cookies used by the database vendor to identify you as a valid user. Your browser must be set to accept cookies for the connection to the desired database to occur.
Solution: Be sure your browser supports cookies and is enabled to accept
      them.

  6. Your browser may not be set to run JavaScript. JavaScript is used by many of the databases the library subscribes to, and if your browser won't use it you may not be able to use them.
Solution: Be sure your browser supports JavaScript and that you have it
configured to allow it to be used.

  7. Software you have installed on your computer is interfering with your browser’s ability to connect with databases (older versions of RealPlayerare often incompatible with database logon procedures.
Solution: Disable or uninstall the offending software while you are using
      databases.

  8. You may have a block on your CSUDH Library record as a result of outstanding fines or fees at one or more libraries in the California State University system.
Solution: Check with the Circulation Desk (phone # and or e-mail??) to find out
      how to remove the block.
