Library Instruction - The University Library maintains an ongoing instructional program to teach students, faculty and staff how to get the most out of the Library's wide range of services and resources.
Services for FACULTY
Questions
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION: Faculty may request a lecture or workshop tailored to meet the needs of any scheduled class in any course or discipline. Such presentations may include any or all of the following: INFORMATION LITERACY: Learn how to infuse Information Literacy concepts into assignments. Contact Caroline Bordinaro for an introduction and materials to guide faculty through the process.
- library orientation and basic research skills (such as
using the Library Catalog (OPAC) and working with traditional print materials).- Searching specific online databases.
- using the Internet as part of the scholarly research process.
TOURS: Contact Caroline Bordinaro to arrange a brief tour of the library for your class.
INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION: Faculty may also request one-on-one or group assistance in using electronic databases in their own research and teaching; contact Caroline Bordinaro to schedule an appointment with a Reference Librarian.HANDOUTS: Copies of printed handouts are available at the Reference Desk.

How Can I Arrange Library Instruction For My Class?
Faculty may request formal lectures / workshops for scheduled courses:
- by filling out and submitting the online Library Instruction Request Form
OR- by calling Caroline Bordinaro at (310) 243-2084 to schedule a class for a library visit.
POLICIES:
1) We require AT LEAST TWO WEEKS NOTICE to accomodate for preparation and scheduling.
2) Instructors MUST ATTEND library orientation sessions with their classes unless prior arrangements have been made with the librarian. Otherwise, library sessions may be subject to cancellation.Please contact Caroline Bordinaro regarding questions about these policies.
Where Are Library Instruction Classes Held?
- ERC A-411, a lecture classroom opposite the inside elevator on the fourth floor of the Library, accomodating up to 50 students.
- ERC A-213, across the lobby from the main entrance to the Library, which offers hands-on instruction in effective use of the Library's growing collection of electronic databases. This room best accomodates groups of 20 or fewer.
