         NURSES' PROBLEM SOLVER #1

"" Problem: I need peer-reviewed, full-text articles for my Nursing assignment.
   What should I do?

"" Solution: Try searching in one of our remotely accessible full-text databases!

A growing number of our online journal article databases provide the texts and images for some or all of the articles
they
index. This means that you can often find high-quality research materials while sitting at your home computer.

The journal indexes that will help you the most are:

"" CINAHL PLus with Full Text (EBSCO)
"" ProQuest Nursing Journals
"" ProQuest Medical Journals

"Why do we carry so many journal indexes?"

""
Each journal index uses different words to describe its articles.
""
The number of journals and dates of coverage vary from index to index.
""  The total number of articles and the amount of full text offered also vary.
""  Many of our databases are linked together by those blue "Check Availability" links.
The more databases we carry, the better the chance that you will be able to
link to the full text of an article.

Find a Full Text Peer Reviewed Journal Article in EBSCOhost CINAHL:

Example: You need articles from peer reviewed journals on the management of childhood asthma through patient education.

-Choose CINAHL Plus with Full Text from the EBSCO "Choose Databases" screen.

Then click right on top of its title.

-Enter search terms on the EBSCO Search Screen (as shown below):

  Sample Ebsco Search Screen

This search located 170+ results, all of which have all three search terms somewhere in their records:

Improve this CINAHL search by using field limiting:

Use the same search terms as in the above example, but to make sure that all articles you locate are actually
ABOUT your search terms, change the “Default Fields” setting to “MW Word in Subject Heading”:
Example of Limiting Ebsco Search

This search located 130+ results, all of which have subject headings that actually contain all three search terms
(click on article title to see actual subject headings):
Click on Ebsco Full Text icon to check for full text of articles

""

Tip: Use the CINAHL Headings (Thesaurus) to find correct subject headings:

    - Click the green CINAHL Headings button on the main toolbar at the top of the screen.

   - Type a term for which you would like to identify a subject heading into the Browse box.

    - Click the Browse button.

    - Click Scope note to see a definition of the term as it is used in CINAHL.

    - You can click directly on subject terms, check the boxes beside them to search a combination
of terms or cut and paste them into the search screen where you are working.

(Each of ProQuest Nursing, ProQuest Medical Journals and Cochrane Library databases also has a thesaurus.
Use the thesaurus in any journal index to find the subject terms the database uses to describe what you're looking for).
