How to find a specific article when
         you already have the citation

FFirst, decide whether A or B (below) best describes your situation:

A.  I already know which database contains my journal:

Try entering information from the article citation into the Find boxes of
that database
.
To check for a specific article (e.g.: from a syllabus,
reading list or bibliography), use:
           -the author's last name,
-a distinctive word or phrase from the article title, and
           -the journal title

e.g.: you think the following article may be in ProQuest Nursing Journals :

"Hassles: their importance to nurses' quality of work life",
by Lynda Beaudoin and Linda Edgar, in Nursing Economics,
May/Jun 2003. Vol. 21, 3; p. 106

  - log in to ProQuest Nursing Journals
  - type hassles (a distinctive word or phrase from the above article title)
into the top "Find" text box
  - click the dropdown box to the right to read TI Title
  - type Beaudoin (author's last name) into the "Find" text box on the 2nd line
  - click the dropdown box at the end of the second line to read Author.
  - type Nursing Economics (journal title) into the "Find" box on the 3rd line
  - click the dropdown box at the end of the second line to read Publication title
  - click the Search button.

B.  I'm not sure which database contains my journal:

Try using the CSUDH Journals List:
                       - go to the CSUDH Library web site at http://library.csudh.edu/
                       - under Find Library Materials, click CSUDH Journals List.                        -
                       - click on I know the title of the journal I want
                       - type the title of the journal into the Find box (be careful NOT to accidentally type
                          the title of the article!)
                       - if the Library owns full text of that journal, you'll see a page with links to one or
more electronic journal indexes that contain it, and/or a link to locations of hard
copy in the CSUDH Print/Microfilm Collection.
                      - if the Library does not own the journal you entered, you'll see this message:
No Titles where the Title contains "journal title".
If you see that message, e-mail full information about what you are searching
                         for to cdales@csudh.edu.

                      - the link to the CSUDH Journals List appears on several other library web pages--go ahead
and use it whenever you need to see whether we have a specific issue of a specific journal title)

Remember:

     •  Use the CSUDH Journals List ( http://0-atoz.ebsco.com.torofind.csudh.edu/home.asp?Id=csudh)
when you do know which journal you need, but you don't know which database contains it.

     •  Full text is not always available in the CSUDH Library!
The full text of an article for which you have been given or have located acitation will not always be online,
nor will it always be owned by the CSUDH Library.
If we don't have an article you really need, we will always try to obtain it for you as soon as possible.
