Significant Leadership Initiatives

2005 – 2006: Recipient of the Xi Theta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Regional Excellence Award for support of goals and objectives reflecting knowledge, service, leadership, communities and sustainability. Presentation on September 30, 2006. Indianapolis, Indiana.

2004 – 2005: Recipient of the Xi Theta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Leadership Award for outstanding service.

1999 - 2000: As Associate Faculty at Mira Costa Community College designed and implemented English as a Second Language (ESL) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Facilitated the completion of this comprehensive program for a diverse population of adult students resulting in 100% state certification outcome and employment.

2000 - 2001: As Coordinator, Student and Graduate Affairs, Associate Degree Nursing, initiated major curriculum revision of senior nursing leadership course to include a clinical "Preceptor" placement with identified leaders within community hospitals and local healthcare facilities. Incorporated a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) review program in conjunction with Kaplan Educational Centers. This course has resulted in significant first-time licensure pass rates.

1999 - 2001: Commander, Nurse Battalion (P). Responsible for Army Medical Department training at seven different training sites located throughout the western United States. First female commander under the 104th Division to command and supervise professional faculty and paraprofessional healthcare personnel in Tacoma, Washington; Vancouver, Washington; Sacramento, California; San Jose, California; Pasadena, California; Aurora, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional plans to open a site in Hawaii, 2002. All courses offered are in compliance with accreditation standards required by each state and federal regulatory agencies. First Institutional Training Battalion to initiate National League of Nursing accreditation process.

1998 - 1999: Appointed an Educational Technology Task Force chaired by Dr.
(Lt. Colonel) Gloria J. Willingham, charged with developing a comprehensive Distance Learning Plan for the Nurse Battalion (P), 5th Brigade, 104th Division (Institutional Training) resulting in the implementation of this plan as the Division prototype for the distance learning imitative.
